DEMOLITION DRIVE: SLUM DWELLERS SUFFER IN BONE-CHILLING COLD
Hundreds of slum dwellers are forced to live in the open sky in bone-chilling winters near the Mansarovar Park Metro line in northeast
Delhi as their hutments were demolished in a drive conducted by municipal authorities.
At least four women gave birth in the open last night and more than 500 children – with nearly half of them being less than three-year-old
– were left homeless in the near-freezing temperature as authorities razed their shelters down in the middle of the night.
The slum dwellers said the civic authorities accompanied by a huge police force descended at the colony without any prior intimation and
bulldozed everything kept in hutments. The victims claimed that they have ration cards, voter ID and aadhar card with the same address.
Interestingly, it happened at a time when Aaam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal is set to take oath as Delhi Chief Minister.
