India’s status changed from ‘Consuming Nation’ to ‘Authorizing Nation’
Thursday, Ministry of Communications and IT cleared, India has become the Authorizing Nation as per the international CCRA (common criteria recognition arrangement) and can now certify the electronic gadgets in the context of the cyber security and that certificate will be accepted globally.
Till now, India was carrying the status of a ‘Consuming Nation’ with regards to certification of electronics and IT products. India is the 17th Nation in the world who have such authority to validate the electronic gadgets.
This move will be beneficial for the consumers of electronic gadgets who are used to be dependent on the International companies for such certifications in India and now they can rely on the Indian certifications.
The major members of this international arrangement comprises of the 26 member countries including US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Australia etc. This new status will enhance the investment in setting up infrastructure & labs in the IT sector with public- private partnership in the India.
Currently, The Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) and its wing Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEIT) has the authority to certify the electronic product but that certificate has a nationwide validity only But after becoming Authorizing Nation its certificate will be accepted globally.
