INDIA’S STATUS WILL BE ENHANCED CONSIDERABLY IF MARS MISSION IS SUCCESSFUL: MISSILE EXPERT PK GHOSH
With India’s ambitious mission to Mars moved ahead smoothly on Sunday with the 56.5- hour countdown beginning at 6.08 a.m. at the
Sriharikota spaceport, eminent missile expert PK Ghosh says it’s a very important mission for India and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
“There are various things involved. It’s a technology demonstrator and it’s going to reveal how good we are at sending satellites and rocketry into space and establishing the fact that there are only three powers, US, Russia and Europe which have actually sent satellites to Mars. So, it’s a very important thing for us,” said Ghosh today in New Delhi.
As Japan and China have actually failed earlier, it’s a matter of great importance for India, he said, adding that the country’s status will be enhanced considerably if Mars mission is successful.
When asked about the criticism that a “poor” country like India is wasting money on sending a spacecraft to Mars, the missile expert said it’s a petty mind which says such sort of things because India has
spent only about $69 million and compared to the overall budget on space and other issues, it’s not a very large amount.
