More Civilians killed in Terrorist attacks than Drone strike: Pak Government
Pakistan government on Wednesday released the official figure of people who killed in American drone attack. So far over 2,100 militants and 67 civilians have been killed in the attacks by American unmanned planes in north-west Pakistan.
According to Pakistan’s interior minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan so far 12,404 people are killed in terrorist activities. On the other hand 2,160 militants and 67 civilians so far have been killed in drone attacks.
Amid controversy over legality of drone attack that have been killing innocent in the war tone Pakistan, this figure come as a big relief for US spy agency CIA which is responsible for drone strike in the region.
International rights groups have claimed that there have been high civilian casualties in American drone strikes. Amnesty International had recently claimed some of these attacks as equal war crimes.
In recent visit to America Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif had raised the issue of drone strikes with American President. US maintain that drone strikes are precision attacks and have killed many top militants and terrorists.
State-run Radio Pakistan quoted the Interior minister as saying that 6,149 terrorists have been arrested by law enforcement agencies since 2002. During this period of time 13, 233 people were awarded capital punishment and 501 of them were hanged.
He also claims that recent amendments in the anti-terrorisms act and investigation for Fair Trial Act, 2013 has been a milestone to curb terrorism.
