Selection committee of the BCCI, headed by Sandeep Patil, today announced the Indian squads for the upcoming ODI series and Test series against South Africa. While pacer Zaheer Khan has made it back  in the Test side, Gambhir has failed to find a place in the side as a reserve opener despite a healthy average of 74 plus in the ongoing  Ranji season.

BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel made this announcement after a grueling discussion to pick the squads in Gujarat’s Vadodara.

Interestingly, Baroda batsman Ambati Rayudu, a seasoned domestic player, has been named in both the Test and ODI teams, while veterans  like Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh continued to remain on the sidelines. Lanky Ishant Sharma have been retained in both the squads  notwithstanding his poor form.

The month-long tour, which includes three ODIs followed by two Tests, is India’s first international assignment after the retirement of  Sachin Tendulkar.

ODI squad:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat  Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin,
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Ambati Rayudu, Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Amit Mishra, Ajinkya Rahane.

Test squad:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, R. Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Zaheer Khan, Ambati Rayudu,  Umesh Yadav, Wriddhiman Saha, Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha, Ravindra  Jadeja.
